Brandon’s municipal election is fast approaching, and more evidence of it is not only visible on the streets with campaign signs popping up, it’s also visible on the City of Brandon’s website as they’ve listed all the officially registered candidates so far.
Incumbent Mayor Jeff Fawcett is running for Mayor again. He had previously served 12 years as a city councilor before being elected mayor in 2022. Former MLA for Brandon East and longtime city councilor Len Isleifson will also be running for Mayor.
Ward 5 councilor Greg Hildebrand is currently running unopposed in Ward 5, as are incumbent councilor Shaun Cameron in Ward 4, current councilor Bruce Luebke in Ward 6, and incumbent Shawn Berry in Ward 7. Potential newcomers to council running unopposed so far are Norah Woychyshyn in Ward 9 and Enver Naidoo in Ward 3.
The most contested ward to this point is Ward 2, with five candidates running to replace Kris Desjarlais, who has announced he will not run again.
Candidates for both Mayor and council can register between now and September 22.
