The Dauphin Regional Health Centre’s Emergency Centre, shut down for almost two months now due to flooding, may soon be back open according to Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew.
In a social media post from Dauphin, the Premier promised to have emergency department services back up and running by Labour Day. This year, Labour Day Monday falls on September 7.
“Shoutout to all of the workers who’ve been doing an amazing job on the cleanup,” the Premier said in the video. “Shoutout also to the healthcare staff, the nurses, the doctors, who have been good sports and are still working hard through this period. We’ve heard you loud and clear, Dauphin. You need these services close to home. You’ll have an emergency department working by Labour Day.”
After the closure of the ER and the rest of Dauphin Regional Health Centre due to heavy flooding, Prairie Mountain Health has been forced to relocate many of the services within. Patients in need of emergency medical assistance were directed to the Ste. Rose and Grandview Emergency Departments. As of the latest update from PMH, on August 7, they had opened a temporary diagnostic patient service center offering walk-in X-ray, urine collection, blood tests, electrocardiogram (EKG) & Holter monitoring services in the Dauphin Provincial Building.
The ER has been closed since July 1.
