A Dauphin man, identified as former Dauphin Mayor (1994-97) and Manitoba MLA and Member of Parliament (1997-2010) Inky Mark, is facing 26 additional firearms-related charges following an ongoing RCMP investigation into alleged weapons trafficking.
The investigation first came to light in July when Manitoba RCMP executed a search warrant at a Dauphin residence, seizing hundreds of firearms, ammunition, an antique cannon and more than $300,000 in cash. Mark, was initially charged with 12 offences, including firearms trafficking, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number and possession of property obtained by crime.
RCMP say investigators continued their work after the arrest and were contacted about a separate incident that allegedly occurred between December 2024 and February 2025. Police allege Mark responded to a friend’s social media post about a coyote problem by going to the person’s property and providing a firearm and ammunition. The weapon was ultimately recovered and not used.
Further examination of evidence seized from the residence found Mark possessed 445 firearms, six more than originally reported. According to RCMP, 295 of those firearms were unsafely stored, 10 were prohibited weapons, and 11 restricted or prohibited firearms were not registered to him. Investigators also recovered 26.5 kilograms of explosives, more than four times the amount licensed individuals are permitted to possess.
The new charges include weapons trafficking, multiple counts of unauthorized possession of prohibited and restricted firearms, failing to report lost firearms, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number and possession of more than six kilograms of explosives.
Mark was re-arrested on Aug. 12 and released on an undertaking. He now faces a total of 38 charges.
In addition to the previous charges, 78-year-old Inky Mark of Dauphin is now also charged with 26 new offences, bringing the overall number of charges to 38. The new charges include:
- Weapons trafficking;
- Possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession is unauthorized x3;
- Possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammo without licence or registration x9;
- Possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized x9;
- Possession of firearm with tampered serial number;
- Failing to report losing firearm x2;
- Having more than six kilograms of explosives.
