Wheat Kings scouts and staff said they wanted a competitive camp, and they got their wish. No team finished training camp 2026 undefeated, and two games (including the championship game) went to overtime.
In that championship game, Prabh Bhathal scored the overtime winner for Team Thompson in a 5-4 win over Team Boschman. Kade Pierson scored twice for Thompson in regulation, and Rylan Spicer and Will Katsilieris provided the other two tallies.
“We got better as camp went along,” Bhathal said. “We gelled, we connected. We switched up the lines throughout games, but it didn’t make a difference, everyone played simply, made the right decisions. We executed when we needed to and our goalies came in clutch.”
The two teams were tied after twenty minutes, owing to goals by Cole Hunter for Boschman and Katsilieris in the final minute for Thompson. It was Team Boschman that seized the lead in the second, striking quickly on goals by Colin Grubb and Joby Baumuller. Grubb finished with two goals and an assist.
After Spicer brought Thompson back within one on a two-on-one with Austin Rideout, Pierson picked up one of the more memorable goals of camp to tie the game. First, he delivered a thunderous bodycheck to free up the puck, then went to the slot where he took a pass from Brady Turko and ripped it home.
Grubb scored his second of the game on an incredible spinorama pass from the corner by Ahmad Fayad, but Pierson responded with his second to tie the score again. In overtime, Bhathal poked the puck away from a defender just outside his own zone, streaked in alone, and fired home the winner.
“I felt like, depending on the game, maybe the first one, it took me a period to get settled,” Bhathal said. “But as camp went along and progressed, I was more comfortable out there and able to show more of my skill set.”
In the third place game earlier in the day, between Team Pulock and Team Ferraro, Team Ferraro took a more decisive 5-1 win, with multi-point efforts from each member of their top line of Rylan Edwards, Jaxon Jacobson and Kris Muissu. The lone goal for Team Pulock came from Levi Ellingsen.
“Those two guys are amazing, they’re so fast,” said Edwards, who finished with two goals and an assist. “They see the play really well and it was a lot of fun playing with them.”
Next up for Wheat Kings’ camp is the Prospects Game at 10:30 at ACU Place tomorrow morning, before the Black and Gold Game at 6:30 at J&G Homes Arena.
