🏗️ Park Community Centre Project Moving Forward
Construction of Brandon’s new Park Community Centre could begin as early as spring 2027, according to Mayor Jeff Fawcett. Detailed planning is nearing completion, with the project remaining on budget at $8.5 million.
The new facility will replace the current community centre building, which dates back to 1946, and will feature a stage along with 68 daycare spaces to better serve area families.
🌎 Manitoba Launches First Net Zero Action Plan
The Manitoba government has unveiled its first-ever Net Zero Action Plan, outlining 90 actions backed by more than $350 million in future funding aimed at achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Among the major initiatives is a $4 million investment toward a geothermal district energy system at the University of Manitoba’s Southwood Circle development, a project officials describe as a significant step toward lowering emissions and expanding clean energy solutions.
🚸 RCMP Share Back-to-School Safety Reminders
Following an unusually dangerous summer on Manitoba roads, RCMP are urging both drivers and students to make safety a priority as classes resume.
Police are reminding motorists and pedestrians to stay focused and avoid distractions from mobile devices in school zones. Parents are also encouraged to have regular conversations with their children about online safety, including app usage, social media interactions and online gaming contacts.
🚗 Operation Red Nose Announces New Brandon Partnership
Operation Red Nose is receiving a boost ahead of the holiday season through a new partnership with the Provincial Exhibition.
The historic Dome Building will serve as the organization’s call centre headquarters during the 2026 campaign. The season officially launches November 27 and 28 with a retro 70s and 80s-themed social featuring Vintage Voltage, costume contests and fundraising activities.
🔫 Multiple Weapons Seized, Charges Laid Near Wawanesa
Brandon RCMP seized six firearms, ammunition, magazines and a tactical-style knife during a search warrant execution in the RM of Oakland-Wawanesa on August 31.
Thirty-four-year-old Bryce McMillan faces several weapons-related charges, including possession of prohibited firearms and breaching court-ordered firearm prohibitions. He was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
🌊 City Approves Golf Course Drainage Improvements
The City of Brandon has approved $210,000 in drainage enhancement work at Wheat City Golf Course in an effort to reduce future flood-related closures.
Recreation Director Heather Reimer says the project complements previous dike improvements and will help move excess water more efficiently through the property, reducing disruptions during wet conditions.

🚜 Manitoba Harvest Reaches 28 Per Cent Complete
Harvest progress across Manitoba has reached 28 per cent despite recent rainfall slowing field operations in several regions.
Field peas lead the way at 82 per cent harvested, while barley, spring wheat and oats have all surpassed the halfway mark. Canola harvest sits at 15 per cent complete, with yields ranging from below average to average. Meanwhile, livestock producers report generally favourable pasture conditions across the province.
