The City of Brandon continues to recognize the service and sacrifice of military veterans through a year-round parking exemption for vehicles displaying a Manitoba Veteran’s licence plate.
Under the City of Brandon Traffic By-law, any vehicle displaying a Manitoba Veteran’s licence plate is entitled to park free of charge at City-owned parking meters throughout the year. The initiative serves as a simple but meaningful way for the community to acknowledge the contributions of veterans and demonstrate appreciation for their service.
While the exemption may seem like a small gesture, it reflects the strong connection between Brandon’s military and civilian communities. Recognition of veterans does not always come through ceremonies or special events. Sometimes it is woven into everyday life through practical measures that make a difference and remind veterans that their service is valued.
Veterans and their families are encouraged to be aware of where the exemption applies. The free parking privilege is limited to City of Brandon parking meters located on City-owned property. It does not extend to parking facilities operated by other organizations or institutions.
Locations where regular parking rates still apply include Brandon Regional Health Centre (BRHC), Assiniboine College, Brandon University, the Town Centre, and Brandon Shoppers Mall parking facilities.
The City hopes the program continues to provide convenience for veterans while serving as a visible expression of gratitude for their service to Canada and the community.
