A long-standing community effort near Rivers has wrapped up another successful season, helping raise support for people facing hunger around the world.
The Acres of Hope project completed its soybean harvest this week, bringing in approximately 155 acres of soybeans for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The crop will be sold, with proceeds supporting food assistance and long-term food security programs in vulnerable regions worldwide.
The Rivers-area project began nearly three decades ago and is now in its 28th year. After being put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, the community-based initiative returned to full operation in 2026 with strong local support.
Area farmers, businesses and volunteers donated land, seed, fertilizer, fuel, equipment and labour throughout the growing season. Organizers say the project’s success continues to be driven by community members working together toward a common goal.
The Acres of Hope harvest was also the final Canadian Foodgrains Bank growing project harvest of the year in Manitoba.
