More than two dozen people were arrested last week as part of a targeted enforcement operation led by the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offenders Apprehension Unit (MIVOAU).
The specialized unit, made up of officers from the RCMP and Winnipeg Police Service, focuses on locating and arresting some of Manitoba’s most violent and prolific offenders, including suspects wanted for serious crimes and those facing outstanding warrants.
Three-day MIVOAU operation results in firearms seizures, drug arrests and the capture of wanted offenders
Between Oct. 19 and 21, MIVOAU officers conducted operations in Dauphin, Grandview, Winnipegosis, Sandy Bay First Nation and Ebb and Flow First Nation. The effort was supported by several RCMP units, including Police Dog Services, the West District General Investigation Section and the West District Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team.
Over the three-day operation, officers knocked on 143 doors, arrested 28 offenders and seized three firearms along with approximately one ounce of cocaine.
The most significant incident occurred in Grandview on Oct. 21. At about 5:30 p.m., officers attended a residence while searching for a wanted individual. With the homeowner’s consent, police searched the property and located a firearm in plain view.
Six people inside the residence were arrested, including one person who was the subject of a MIVOAU warrant. Officers also seized a small quantity of cocaine during the search.
All six suspects are facing drug and/or weapons-related charges.
Police say the operation highlights the importance of coordinated enforcement efforts aimed at reducing violent crime and apprehending high-risk offenders across Manitoba communities.
