CancerCare Manitoba says Westman cancer care will continue without interruption
CancerCare Manitoba and Prairie Mountain Health say patients in Westman will continue to have access to medical oncology services following the departure of Dr. Brady Anderson from the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre later this month.
In a joint statement released Sunday, the organizations said a transition plan is already in place to ensure there will be no interruption or delay in patient care when Anderson leaves his position on Nov. 13.
According to the release, CancerCare Manitoba recruited an additional medical oncologist earlier this year specifically for the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre in Brandon. The physician is already in Manitoba and is expected to join the Brandon team in early December.
Health officials say additional medical oncology resources will also be brought in during November to bridge the gap between Anderson’s departure and the arrival of the new specialist.
“CancerCare Manitoba had already recruited an additional medical oncologist specifically for the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre earlier in 2026,” the release stated.
The organizations added that all patients currently receiving care through the Western Manitoba Cancer Centre will continue to be seen by a medical oncologist throughout the transition period.
“Their care will not be interrupted or delayed because of this transition,” the statement said.
The announcement follows public concern about oncology services in Western Manitoba after Anderson announced plans to leave the region. Health officials say the recruitment of a new oncologist and the addition of temporary resources are intended to maintain continuity of care for cancer patients across Westman.
