Brandon, MB (CKLQ) – The Brandon Wheat Kings wrapped up the 2017 edition of training camp with the Annual Canad Inns Intra-Squad Game on Sunday.
Around 150 fans were in attendance at Westman Place as the remaining players in camp battle for a spot on the roster.
Tanner Kaspick and Jonny Hooker each had three point nights while Baron Thompson and Stelio Mattheos turned in two goal performances in a dominating 9-2 win over Team White.
Team Black got off to a quick start as Sam Anderson opened the scoring just 1:51 into the game.
Black would add another a short time later as Tanner Kaspick finished off a nice feed from Linden McCorrister to make it 2-0.
Before the first frame came to a close, Baron Thompson snapped home a wrist shot to give his squad a 3-0 lead.
16-year-old rookie Jonny Hooker had a solid opening period, chipping in with a pair of assists.
Team Black continued to dominate in the 2nd period adding a trio of goals before the midway point of the frame.
Kade Jensen, Kolten Shindle and Stelio Mattheos all found the back of the net before the midway goaltending change.
In the third, the White squad came to life and tried to chip into the lead, getting goals from Lynden McCallum and Gunnar Wegleitner but it wasn’t enough to kickstart a comeback.
Logan Thompson and Ethan Kruger combined for 30 saves to earn the victory while Hunter Arps and Zach Bennett turned aside 42 in the losing effort.
