Brandon’s Lois Fowler is one win away from a national title at the Canadian Senior Women’s Curling Championship in Yellowknife.
Fowler and her team of Maureen Bonar, Cathy Gauthier and Allyson Stewart secured a spot in Saturday’s final after a first-place finish in the round-robin with a 10-1 record.
"I think it’s the strongest field I’ve ever seen at a national senior. It’s very similar to a Scotties, probably 15 years ago because we’ve played so many of the girls," said Fowler, "I never dreamt that you’d have to go 10-1 to finish first-place. I thought it be more losses for the teams at the top. That just shows you how tight a race it was."
Fowler is competing in her eighth Canadian championship and skipped teams to bronze medals at the national seniors in 2009 and 2013.
Taking home the top prize at this year’s event will earn her the right to represent Canada at the 2015 World Senior Women’s Curling Championship.
"It’s exciting to be in the final and it certainly would be a complete dream come true to win it all and represent Canada, but we got to go play that game. Hopefully we’ll have good results, we’re playing well. We just got to go play our game and hopefully good things will happen," said Fowler.
The first and only Manitoba team to capture a Canadian senior women’s title was Mabel Mitchell and her Brandon rink in 1983.
