Riding Mountain National Park has started offering limited camping services.
This week visitors will have access to the following services and facilities:
– Wasagaming campground will open to visitors with existing reservations. New reservations for select areas of the campground will reopen June 27, 2020.
– Backcountry camping resumes June 22. New Reservations can be made as of June 27, 2020.
– Self-registration camping will resume at the following outlying campgrounds: Moon Lake, Deep Lake and Whirlpool Lake. Day use at Lake Audy remains open; overnight camping will remain closed until further notice.
– Camp Kippichewin will open on June 22, 2020. Camp Ma-Ma-O-Pee will remain closed for the 2020 season
– Washroom and shower facilities located in open campgrounds will be available for use.
All oTENTiks, and other roofed accommodations at the Wasagaming Campground remain closed until further notice. The oTENTiks at Moon Lake and Lake Audy will remain closed for the season.
Visitors to Riding Mountain National Park have access to many trails, beaches and day use areas, including outlying campground day use areas at Moon Lake, Whirlpool Lake, Lake Audy and Deep Lake. Recreational boating, which includes the use of motorboats, canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards, is permitted in park waterways with a Parks Canada issued permit and mandatory boat inspection as per the park’s aquatic invasive species (AIS) program regulations. This summer, the camping experience at Riding Mountain National Park will be different than previous years.
Initially camping will be limited to visitors with existing reservations. Visitors are required to have a reservation in order to camp at Riding Mountain National Park. Parks Canada will gradually begin to accept new online reservations for some campgrounds in Riding Mountain National Park as of June 27, 2020. Visitors should check the Parks Canada website regularly for updates and information on services available and reservation windows. Events, group and interpretation activities remain suspended until further notice.
Visitors are asked to plan ahead by checking the Riding Mountain National Park website before they travel to find out what is open, what they can expect, and how to prepare for their visit.
Visitors must follow local and provincial or territorial travel restrictions, including requirements for self-isolation. It is not possible to self-isolate at Parks Canada campgrounds. Visitors must complete any provincial or territorial requirements for self-isolation before arriving to camp at Riding Mountain National Park.
The health and safety of visitors and employees is of utmost importance to the Government of Canada. Parks Canada is following the advice of public health experts and continues to make every effort to limit the spread of COVID-19. Visitors should follow the advice of public health experts, including necessary hygiene practices and physical distancing of two metres from others.
Parks Canada is asking Canadians to be cautious and conservative when they visit Riding Mountain National Park and to respect any closures that are in place. Anyone participating in recreational activities should be extra cautious to avoid injury and/or getting lost to help minimize the demands placed on search and rescue teams and on the health care system.
