The Brandon University Bobcats women’s volleyball team’s final recruit for the 2014-15 season is also a first. Winnipeg product Kayla Solomon has committed to the Bobcats and will be the first music student to play volleyball at BU.
Solomon, who stands 6-feet tall and has experience at both outside and middle, is a soon to be graduate of Collège Jeanne-Sauvé where she was team captain her senior year.
This past season she was also a member of the Cobras team that captured the 18U provincial club title, after finishing second at provincials one year prior as a member of the Cobras 17U team.
BU coach Lee Carter feels that Solomon’s attributes as both a student and an athlete make her a suitable fit for the Bobcats.
"Kayla is the type of player that is always just a little bit ahead of the game," Carter says. "She’s very intelligent which speaks to her overall approach to academics, athletics, and student life in general."
"It’s great to have someone who wants to be a Bobcat. Kayla is well-skilled, she has a very quick arm and understands the game. Kayla is a very committed student and athlete and I think she’ll fare very well."
Solomon’s commitment to music as well as her athletic aspirations made BU the ideal university.
"Brandon University has a stellar music program which alongside the success of the volleyball team made my decision to come to Brandon simple," says Solomon.
"I’ve always wanted to play volleyball in university. I am so lucky to get to study a subject that I am passionate about and be a part of a team that is so passionate. I am most excited about training alongside players that I have looked up to over the years and pushing myself to become the best athlete that I can be."
