I came across an article (Reddit) about a Dad that had saved up about $35,000 to pay for his daughter’s wedding. Like many this past year, the wedding had to be postponed due to Covid-19 and the couple ended up eloping. Dad decided, since there would be no wedding to pay for, that he would buy himself a new car and go on a vacation. The daughter asked her Dad if she could have the money for a down payment on a house and he had to tell her he’d spent the money on himself. The daughter was livid that Dad had spent the money. Was Dad wrong to spend the money? It was, afterall, his money, designated specifically for a wedding that never happened.
