Flowers are in bloom, the leaves are back and the grass is green (ish). It has been a dry start to the spring season and if you are like me, you have had the sprinkler out every single day. Everything is dusty and crunchy and crisp. One thing I did notice this past weekend, is the sound of lawnmowers running and the site of freshly cut grass around my area. In my opinion, it is way too early to be cutting grass, also too dry. Bee City Brandon, a local environmental conservation organization, has been promoting “No Mow May” to give the bee population a chance to get a good start to pollen season. Dandelions may not be everyone’s favourite, but they are a favourite to the fragile bee population.
