A two vehicle crash, near Portage la Prairie Monday afternoon (July 6) has claimed the life of a 13-year-old girl.

RCMP say the girl was killed at the scene at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 26.

Police say the investigation determined that an eastbound vehicle, containing a 36-year-old female driver along with two female passengers, a 13-year-old and 10-year-old, all from Winnipeg, was turning north onto Highway 26 when it entered the intersection and was struck by a westbound vehicle, being driven by a 44-year-old male from Winnipeg.

The 13-year-old was later pronounced deceased on scene. The 36-year-old and 10-year-old were both taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 44-year-old male driver was treated and released on scene.

Seatbelts were in use at the time of the collision and alcohol is not a factor.

Portage la Prairie RCMP, along with a Traffic Analyst, continue to investigate.
