Brandon police report that they have received reports this week from individuals regarding the grandparent scam being active again in Brandon. Suspects are phoning potential victims and instructing them to transfer money in a variety of manners in order to secure the release of their loved one. Please talk with people in your life who may not yet be aware of this fraud to help prevent them from becoming a victim. So far, in all of the reports we are aware of, the potential victim did not send any money.
If you received a phone call from someone claiming to be a loved one in trouble, and needing money to secure their release from police custody, do not provide the caller and information and hang up. Immediately call the family member or another family member to verify your suspicions. On May 11, 2023 shortly before 11:00 pm, police responded to a report of a disturbance in a residence. Police say the homeowner’s boyfriend allegedly forced his way inside when the victim went to let her dog out, and reportedly threatened and assaulted her. When police arrived, they found a 30-year-old male hiding in the closet. He was to abide by conditions not to communicate with the victim. The victim received minor injuries that did not require medical treatment. Following his arrest, he was lodged at Brandon Police Service and he will appear in court today on charges of Assault, Utter Threats, Break, Enter and Commit Assault and Fail to comply with Release Order.

On May 11, 2023 at approximately 6:30 pm, Brandon police responded to a report of an intoxicated female at a business. The female was reportedly attempting to enter an area only for employees, and crying on the floor. Police attended and arrested a 22-year-old female to lodge her until sober to prevent her behavior from continuing, but once at Brandon Police Service she spit on one of the Commissionaires who was working in the Detention unit. She was arrested for the assault and will be released once sober to appear in court on July 24, 2023 on a charge of Assault.

On May 11, 2023 shortly after 8:00 pm, police responded to a report of an assault between neighbours. Police say their investigation revealed that the two had a disagreement over the adult male victim allegedly speeding in the neighbourhood. A 33-year-old male suspect allegedly struck the victim several times causing minor injuries. The suspect was arrested and later released to appear in court on July 24, 2023 on a charge of Assault.

On May 11, 2023 shortly after 9:00 pm, Brandon police responded to a report of an intoxicated male at a residence in the 400 block of 13th Street. Police say the male’s behaviour was causing concern for his wellbeing, and those concerned were unable to prevent him from escalating due to his intoxication level. He was lodged at Brandon Police Service until sober.

On May 12, 2023, shortly after 1:00 am, police received a report of an intoxicated male who was wandering in traffic in the 1300 block of Lorne Avenue. Police learned the male had locked himself out of his apartment with no way to get inside until morning, and nobody to care for him. As the male was in no condition to care for himself, he was lodged at Brandon Police Service until sober.

On May 11, 2023, police located and arrested a 31-year-old female who was wanted on outstanding charges of Fail to Attend. She was later released and will appear in court on June 22, 2023.
On May 11, 2023, police located and arrested a 17-year-old male who was wanted on outstanding charges of Fail to Attend Court and Fail to Comply with Undertaking X2. He was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will appear in court today.
On May 11, 2023, at approximately 4:30 pm, police stopped a male pedestrian in the 600 block of 10th street who was wanted on outstanding charges of Fail to Attend Court. He was later released to appear in court on July 6, 2023
