The Brandon Wheat Kings, J and G group of companies and Hockey Brandon are excited to announce the J & G little builders BWK Hockey Mentorship program. A brand-new partnership that will see more Wheat King player interaction with local minor hockey teams than ever before. The J & G little builders BWK Hockey Mentorship program will see every member of the Wheat Kings placed with minor hockey teams as a mentor for the season, joining in practices and possibly on bench for some select games.

“This program is really a first of its kind” says Wheat Kings Director of Game Day Operations and Community Relations Chris Falkevitch. “This isn’t about one-off visits and ticket giveaways but having our Wheat King players play a part of the development of the next generation of Westman hockey players. Every age level from U-9 through U-15 will have 2 Wheat Kings assigned to their team that will join their teams for practices, games and off ice events. The U-7’s we have a special Tim Bit program already in place that will continue in conjunction with the J & G little builders BWK Hockey Mentors meaning every level of hockey in Brandon will have a direct tie to the WHL’s Wheat Kings”

“We are extremely honoured to be part of this fantastic partnership with the Brandon Wheat Kings.” said the President of Hockey Brandon, Tim Lang. “Our players look up to the Wheat Kings, so for them to be able to interact and be mentored by them is very exciting.  The Wheat Kings are such a big part of our community, and they continue to give back.  We look forward to working with them on this great initiative for many years.”

And it’s not just for the players. The Brandon Wheat Kings coaching staff will be holding a free Coaches Clinic day, where all Hockey Brandon Coaches will be invited to a clinic that will be run by Marty Murray, Mark Derlago, Del Pedrick and Tyler Plante.

“The Wheat Kings being community leaders is something that has always been engrained and we are ecstatic to kick start such a ambitious program as this” Said Wheat Kings General Manager and Head Coach Marty Murray. “I’m excited to see our guys out their spreading their knowledge and love for the game to the next generation of hockey players.”

Teams and players are being scheduled now with the first team visits set for this week.
