The Winnipeg Ice take down the Brandon Wheat Kings Saturday night by a score of 8-3.
The game didn’t start well for the Wheat Kings who allowed the first goal shorthanded after Connor McClennon jumped the faceoff and scored on a breakaway to make it 1-0. It wouldn’t take long for the Wheat Kings to find the equalizer with Nolan Ritchie batting the puck out of mid air tying the game up on the powerplay. The Ice would score yet another shorthanded goal with Zach Benson left all alone to restore the one goal lead for the Ice with under 8 minutes remaining in the first. The Wheat Kings would tie it up again with Rylen Roersma collecting a Nate Danielson rebound to score his 4th of the season making it 2-2 heading into the dressing room.
The Winnipeg Ice took over the game in the second period. First , Conor Geekie would score off a top corner shot from the left side circle to make it 3-2 only one minute into the period. Then, 5 minutes later Zach Benson would score his 2nd of the game during a 4 on 4 stretch to give the Ice their first two goal lead of the game. The Wheat Kings would surrender a back breaking goal late when they maintained allowed an Aiden Oiring goal to give the Ice a 5-2 lead heading to the 3rd period.
The Ice would add three more goals in the 3rd period to make it 8-2. The Wheat Kings would score a late powerplay goal from Rylen Roersma to make it 8-3. The goal would be Roersma’s 2nd of the game and 5th of the season. The Ice would kill the clock the remainder of the game to skate off with an 8-3 victory.

The Wheat Kings now turn their attention to their Central Division road trip which begins Tuesday night (Nov 15) in Swift Current when they take on the Broncos. The short benched Brandon Wheat Kings defeat the Red Deer Rebels 3-2 in a shootout thriller on Remembrance Day.
The Brandon Wheat Kings went into Friday’s game without Mason Ward, Eastyn Mannix, Charlie Elick, Caleb Hadland, Ben Thornton, Zach Turner, Zakhar Polshakov & Roger McQueen Friday afternoon putting them in a position where they only had 12 forwards and 4 defenders. Only 4 minutes into the game things went from bad to worse with Owen Harris crashing into the boards forcing him to leave the game. So with only 3 defensemen at their disposal the Wheat Kings coaching staff turned to forward Calder Anderson to play with Quinn Mantei for the remainder of the game.
While on a Wheat Kings powerplay, the Rebels would steal the puck allowing Kai Uchacz to score his 2nd shorthanded goal of the year to make it 1-0 Rebels heading into the 2nd period.
The Wheat Kings would have one of their best 2nd periods of the season. It started with Nate Danielson scoring his 8th of the season (3rd shorthanded) to tie it up at 2. Then after some solid puck protection, Jake Chiasson would find Andrei Malyavin allowing him to score from the top of the slot to give the Wheat Kings their first lead of the hockey game.
The Rebels would find a way to tie it up in the third period with Craig Armstrong picking up a centered pass beating Carson Bjarnason to send the game to overtime.
Overtime would solve nothing and the game would go to a shootout.
In the shootout all 3 Wheat Kings shooters would score giving the Wheat Kings their first shootout victory of the year, their 2nd home victory of the year and snapping their 6 game losing streak.
