NEWS & NOTES:

Ice Cold: It was a tough two game set for the Wheat Kings losing their third straight, most recently back to back losses at the hands of the star studded Winnipeg Ice. The Wheat Kings appeared to have an upset in the making last Saturday night holding onto a 3-2 lead in the third but the Ice would storm back and score a pair to pick up the regulation win.

Bear Hunting: The Everett Silvertips come to Brandon for the first time since October of 2018, it’s been over 4 years since the Tips played inside Westoba Place. Brandon is just the midway point of a long 6 game road trip for the Silvertips which began in Moose Jaw & Regina last weekend, Winnipeg Tuesday night and will finish off in Saskatoon & Prince Albert before making the 20 hour trek back to Washington State next Sunday morning. In their last meeting the Silvertips defeated the Wheat Kings 3-2 in Everett. Jake Chiasson & Nolan Ritchie were just 16 and 17 years old playing against a younger Olen Zellweger for the Silvertips. Fast forward to Wednesday November 2nd, 2020, Nolan Ritchie is the overage Captain of the Wheat Kings, Jake Chiasson & Olen Zellweger are now NHL draft picks.

Top Prospect Debut: We should see 2007 born forward Joby Baumuller suit up for his 1st career WHL game Wednesday night. Baumuller, 15 already has 7 goals scored in 9 games played with the Notre Dame Hounds (SMAAAHL). The Wilcox, SK native got to suit up for a couple preseason games with the Wheat Kings last September. Baumuller is the top ranked prospect for the Wheat Kings drafted 12th overall in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft.  Also on the Wheat Kings roster this week is Brandon native Easton Odut. Odut, 15, has already been lighting the lamp with the U18 AAA Brandon Wheat Kings scoring 5 goals and adding 4 assists in only 6 games played. The Brandon native was drafted #34th overall in the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft. We should see Easton suit up for a game this weekend. The door has opened for these young prospects with Charlie Elick, Roger McQueen and Caleb Hadland all away at the World U-17 Challenge from Nov 2nd-12th.

Milestone Watch: Forwards Rylen Roersma will suit up in his 100th career WHL game. Brett Hyland will suit up in his 99th career WHL game.
