The Brandon Wheat Kings welcome the Winnipeg Ice tonight in the first game of a home-and-home series.

The Wheat Kings are coming into the game after suffering a 5-2 loss last Sunday to the Calgary Hitmen. The Ice are atop the WHL's East Division with 50 points and a 25-and-4 record. Brandon is 12-16-3 and in 9th spot with 27 points.

Friday night will be the 5th meeting between the Wheat Kings and the Ice. The last time they played each other back in November, Winnipeg came away with an 8-3 win. This will be a motivated Ice team heading into the two game stretch. Winnipeg is getting captain Carson Lambos back from Team Canada camp after being told he will not be playing in the tournament, even though he was a returning player to the roster.

Heading to Vancouver: Nate Danielson & Carson Bjarnason were named to the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects game earlier this week. Bjarnason, 17, was only one of two goaltenders who received an “A” rating by NHL Central Scouting earlier this year. Bjarnason is third in the WHL with total saves and is currently running a 2.98 goals against average with a 0.911 save percentage. Bjarnason also has 1 shutout this season. Danielson, 18, also received an  “A” rating by NHL Central Scouting. Danielson leads the Wheat Kings in scoring with 15 goals and 22 assists - and just had his 13 game point streak snapped in the loss over the Calgary. Danielson currently has 22 points in his last 14 games. Among the other Wheat King players, Nolan Ritchie has 12 points in his last 9 games. Calder Anderson has 12 points in his last 10 games, and Brett Hyland is on a 6 game goal scoring streak.

The game tonight (Dec 16) is also "Sock it to the Cold” night. Bring in new or lightly worn socks, toques and gloves to the rink which will be collected by Prairie Mountain Health for the Spread the Warmth Campaign helping those in need warm up this winter. It’s also Enns Brothers Tribute to 4-H night. Q Country has the pre-game show beginning at 6:30 - puck drop at 7:00 followed by the play-by-play with Chase Johnston.
