Concerns over COVID-19 ruining Halloween for the little trick or treaters this year gave a Brandon woman an idea.
22-year-old Onix Collette says instead of kids going door to door – the candy comes to them.
“You know with the whole COVID situation, and Halloween up in the air about being cancelled, we were like let’s just throw treats at people and we could ‘yeet’ the treats at kids,” she said. “I know this (sounds) like a joke, but it’s actually not a bad idea.”
Collette has created a Facebook group titled “Westman Yeet the Treat” under her FB name Onix Angel.
The post reads:
“Hello everyone! Welcome to Westmans YEET THE TREAT! Its something I want to organize for Halloween this year where people can trick or treat safely without Risking exposure to COVID-19. I encourage all ages to join us! I myself am an adult that looks forward to participating.
Basically how this will go down is people will decorate there (sic) yards, sit out and wait for people to drive by and well….YEET THE TREAT! For those who aren’t familiar with the term it means to throw candy at people. Obviously safety comes in mind here, we don’t want to take out anyone’s eyes.
My idea for this is people can sign up and we can have a list of houses/a map of everyone who wishes to participate and those who want to throw candy can drive to those locations.”
Onix says, “if parents are worried about sanitary purposes, I’m sure they can probably just pick the candy up, and put it aside, and sanitize it and then give it to the kids afterwards – that way people aren’t coming into contact with each other and you can still have fun on Halloween.”
The post also says “Because Halloween is on a Saturday this year I was thinking of starting the event fairly early, the darker it gets the harder it’ll be to see outside. Please let me know your thoughts! Share this around and let’s plan a good and safe Halloween!”
Onix says you’ve got register on the Facebook group to receive and toss candy.
She says she hasn’t contacted the city yet to get their blessing, but figures with Halloween on a Saturday next month, for safety the event can be held during the day when it’s still light out.
