The Flood Protection Subsidy Program provides subsidy funding for property owners wanting to install either a sump pump and pit and/or a backwater valve in their home or business. The construction of new buildings will not be considered for this program.
Subsidy funding is available for up to 75% of the total materials and installation cost, up to a maximum of $2,500 for the sump pump and pit, and up to a maximum of $1,500 for the backwater valve. Work must be completed by a licensed plumber to qualify for funding. This program is open for all property owners within the City of Brandon.
To qualify for the 2023 program, property owners must do the following:
- Provide a completed subsidy application form.
- Obtain a quote from a licensed plumber.
o If both components are being installed, the quote must list the two items separately to show individual costs.
- The plumber must supply a drawing that includes:
o Location and type of back water valve relative to basement plumbing
o Location of sump pit
o Discharge location of sump pump on exterior of house
- Apply for a flood protection permit at the A.R. McDiarmid Building, located at 638 Princess Avenue, or via our online portal at https://permits.brandon.ca/CityViewPortal/
Applications into the program must be made no later than November 30, 2023, with all work being completed, inspections done, and paperwork being submitted to the City of Brandon by December 15, 2023.
