The first winter storm of the season will impact parts of Manitoba Sunday night into Monday.
On Sunday night, rain will blossom across southern Manitoba while snow pushes into central and northern portions of the province. In the southwest parts of the province, the rain will gradually change to snow late Sunday night into Monday morning, but there may be a period of freezing rain during that changeover.
The system will push northeastwards through the day Monday, spreading snow eastwards across southwest Manitoba and bringing heavy snow and rain showers to parts of central and northern Manitoba. Freezing rain will again be possible on Monday, but the threat area will shift into northeastern Manitoba, extending from areas north of Norway House northeastwards to Shamattawa and north to York Factory.
The snow will ease on Tuesday, lingering through much of northern Manitoba as light snow for the day.
The areas noted by this statement will generally see a messy, wintery mix of precipitation over the next 36 hours, but be spared the worst of this storm. Unfortunately, Colorado Lows can be somewhat unpredictable systems even in the hours leading up to their arrival. Please be sure to check local forecasts for more details on what your area will experience and monitor for any updated warnings as this system begins moving through the province.
Impacts from this system include:
-Reduced visibilities when traveling on highways due to heavy falling snow.
-Icy roads from freezing rain.
-Accumulating wet snow and ice on infrastructure, particularly over the Riding Mountains and through the northern Interlake.
