The Brandon Wheat Kings Hockey Club is thrilled to announce former Captain Ridly Greig has been called up by the Ottawa Senators(NHL).
The Lethbridge AB native spent his entire junior career with the Wheat Kings where he played in 183 career games scoring 76 goals and 115 assists in 4 seasons. Greig was selected in the 1st round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Ottawa Senators.
During the 2022/23 season, Greig has 12 goals and 11 assists with the Belleville Senators(AHL). Since the call up, Greig was informed that in his first practice with the Senators he would play on a line with Claude Giroux & Alex DeBrincat, two players Ridly admires, “Obviously they are two unreal players. They’ve been in this league for quite sometime now”, said Greig. “He (Giroux) was one of my favorite players growing up, so it’s pretty crazy that I’m playing on a line with him”.
Ridly Greig’s Father Mark Greig has been scouting for the Philadelphia Flyers for the past 15 years, naturally Ridly has been following Claude Giroux’s career for sometime.
Senators Head Coach DJ Smith knew he wanted Ridly Greig to suit up in the NHL this season but with the rapid pace Ridly’s been scoring he stated that he was the best player on the Belleville Senators over the past month and that now is the time to bring him up with the void left by Josh Norris who’s season ended due to injury.
The Senators next game will be Wednesday night at home when they host the New York Islanders. Puck drop at 6:00pm Central Time.
