Frozen Fenway Quite an Experience for Carberry Product

  Carberry product Steven Shamanski and the Providence College Friars fought the elements in Boston over the weekend.  
  Shamanski scored his team's only goal in a 1-1 tie with the Merrimack Warriors in one of two games that took place at 'Frozen Fenway' on Saturday.  
  "They sold tickets for both games for the night and I think at one point there were 31,000 fans there so it was the biggest venue I've ever been in front of," said Shamanski on CKLQ's Monday Sports Talk this week, "They you get the history of Fenway Park and the Red Sox just winning the World Series there this year so it was pretty exciting."  
  "It was a pretty big game to play in and then to have that memory of scoring a goal at Fenway Park is something that I'll remember forever," added Shamanski, and accounting major, "You kind of relive your youth a little bit.  It's not often you get outside and play anymore."  
  Shamanski is in his senior season at Providence College after a three-year MJHL career with the Dauphin Kings and, prior to that, three years with the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League's Southwest Cougars.  
  The 24-year old is among 20 finalists for the 2014 men's hockey Senior Class Award.  
  The award recognizes notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.  
  "Growing up in a small town like Carberry, what you put into the community is what you're going to get back," said Shamanski, "Anytime you get the chance to do something extra or just put in time, it's obvious that people are appreciative of it."  
  The Friars entered the weekend as one of four teams in U.S. College with at least 13 wins this season and ranked #6 in the NCAA Rankings.
