Hockey Canada’s World Junior hopefuls were back on the ice in Red Deer, AB today after fourteen days in quarantine due to three positive Covid-19 tests back in November.
However, five members of the camp roster have been deemed unfit to play by Alberta Health’s Return to Play Protocols and have been sent home. This includes Brandon Wheat Kings forward Ridly Greig and Brandonite Daemon Hunt.
Matthew Robertson, Xavier Simoneau, and Mason Millman are also on their way out of camp.
TSN’s Bob McKenzie is reporting that Canada’s selection camp is now working under a “fully secured bubble format,” meaning media won’t be able to attend practices or games. Intra-squad games will not be streamed with only referees, linesmen, and timekeepers permitted inside the bubble.
Meanwhile, the German team has sent two players home including Winnipeg ICE forward Nino Kinder. Sweden and the USA have also been forced to remove players and staff from their training camps due to positive Covid-19 tests.
The Germans are scheduled to open the tournament vs Canada on Boxing Day.
