A familiar face will lead the Human Resources office at Brandon University, as Kristen Fisher is named the campus' new Associate Vice-President, People and Talent.

Although the position is new, replacing the previous title of Chief Human Resources Officer and with a broader focus, Fisher is well-known to the BU community and to the HR office. She has served as Acting Chief Human Resources Officer for two years and was previously Manager of Executive and Board Operations in the Office of the President.

"We are thrilled that Kristen will be moving into this new position with BU. She has been a valued member of the BU community for nearly 14 years and this new position for her is welcomed by the Board and Senior administration," said BU President David Docherty. "On a personal note, I am thrilled that she will continue to serve on the President's Executive Committee where her advice and wise counsel have been invaluable on so many fronts."

Following a recommendation by the search committee, Fisher's appointment was confirmed by the BU Board of Governors on December 23rd.

"I'm honoured to be able to continue in this role in a permanent capacity, and to keep building on relationships and the depth of talent that fill the halls at Brandon University," Fisher said. "These are challenging times for the people of BU, but we have opportunities ahead of us, and I'm eager to help everyone take full advantage."

The refreshed job scope and title for the AVP People and Talent puts a renewed focus on opportunities for Human Resources to serve as a strategic partner in institutional priorities and as an advocate for employees - especially in areas of wellness, culture, and employee education and development - as well as retiring a term that can be disrespectful.

"Brandon University is a people organization, as I am fond of saying," Docherty said. "Over the past two years, Kristen has proven she is very well-suited to continue leading a department dedicated to helping our people do well, and this means that all of BU will do well."
