The Virden-based figure skating duo of Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers are on the road, again!
On the heals of their Olympic debut in Sochi last month, the duo is headed to Japan later this week where the World Championship begins on Monday.
"We were there on the largest world stage that we have yet to experience, there isn’t anything bigger than the Olympics, but we’re competing against,. basically, the same people that we’ll be seeing at Worlds," said Lawrence on CKLQ’s Monday Sports Talk this week, "I think that we went out there and put in two solid performances, I think that’s a huge confidence boost for us going into Worlds."
Lawrence and Swiegers finished in 14th-place the Olympics, and then, basically, took a week off before resuming their practice sessions in preparation for the Worlds.
Lawrence is hopeful that allowed them to conserve some energy and prepare themselves to ‘amp it up’ for the World Championship.
The Worlds will attend the competitive season for the duo, so what’s next?
"We are going to go to Worlds, finish Worlds, take a break for two weeks or so and then get together," said Lawrence, "The three of us (Paige, Rudi and coach Patty Hole) will have to have a talk about where we’re all at, what we want to do next because it’s like a new chapter in our lives."
The next goal could be the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, which would mean another four-year commitment of training for the duo.
Here’s Paige Lawrence complete chat with Tyler Crayston and Lanny Stewart from this week’s Monday Sports Talk…
