The Summer Fair will run from Wednesday, June 7th to Sunday, June 11th and will feature a bigger and better midway, a return of both the Summer Saloon and Chrome in the Trees, fireworks, Breakfast under the Dome, exciting entertainment and so much more.
Gates open Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 pm and fireworks, presented by Heritage Co-op, Home Hardware, Arch Angel and 94.7 Star FM, will highlight the opening night.
Thursday is Westman Disability Day, with over 800 Western Manitobans with physical and intellectual disabilities expected to attend a luncheon, hosted by Heritage Co-op and then have exclusive access to the midway from 1-3pm, courtesy of both the Brandon and Wheat City Lions Clubs. As well, the historic Dome Building will host the annual Seniors Tea, presented by Riverheights Terrace.
For the first time in a number of years, the Saloon returns to the Keystone Centre’s Manitoba Room and will feature the classic rock sounds of the Geezer band on Thursday night and a tribute to country music legend Patsy Cline on Friday. Highlighting the weekend entertainment in the Saloon will be Saskatchewan’s The Bromantics on Saturday.
While the adults will have the opportunity to get down in the Saloon throughout the week, kids of all ages will certainly be excited to know that there is a full menu of entertainment on tap for them under the big tent, to be located north of the Dome Building. Doodles the Clown returns along with pony and wagon rides and new this year, Dr. Von Houligan’s Family Extravaganza, featuring music, magic and more.
The historic Dome Building will host two events during the course of the Fair – in addition to Thursday’s Seniors Tea, it will be the site of the popular Breakfast Under the Dome Sunday morning, sponsored by Cando Rail and Terminals. Admission will be $8.00 and the event will run from 8:30 to 11:30am.
Speaking of food, local Food Truck vendors provided visitors with tasty meal selections from Mexican to Italian. Meanwhile, competitions will be held in the Westoba AG Centre of Excellence featuring Heavy Horses and Miniature horses.
No fair can go without an excellent midway and this year’s version may be the best ever to invade the Manitoba Summer Fair. North American Midway Entertainment has promised to bring close to forty rides, which represents a significant increase over last year, of those, there will be at least five new rides at this year’s event.
“North American Midway Entertainment is bringing in some great new attractions this year and I can’t remember a time that we’ve had this many rides at the Summer Fair,” says Chair Tim Rowan. “There should be something for everyone…from the youngest ones in attendance to both the oldest and the bravest.”
Provincial Exhibition General Manager Mark Humphries says “We’re looking forward to a fun-filled family event with lots of exciting entertainment elements. A friendly reminder to make sure you pack the sunscreen and water – and while there will be individual bag checks at the main entrances, we hope to move the lines as quickly as possible.”
Tickets to this year’s Summer Fair are on sale now at both the Minnedosa and Brandon Heritage Co-op food stores.
Tickets can also be purchased online at www.provincialexhibition.com – and “free” children’s tickets are available online until Tuesday, June 6th.
