The federal government is promising to provide a number of supports to Manitoba in the battle against COVID-19 including epidemiologists and lab techs; testing capacity will also be increased.
On Monday, a record total of 88 COVID patients were in ICU’s – so, the province transferred 14 patients to hospitals across Ontario to free up space. The premier has also asked the Americans for any surplus doses of COVID-19 vaccines to be shipped to Manitoba.
And with the influx of COVID-19 patients to Manitoba hospitals not slowing, a group of doctors is calling on the government to increase restrictions.
The latest health rules are set to expire tomorrow, but the six doctors in different specializations want a stay-at-home order and the closing of non-essential businesses.
In a press release, the doctors say they know there are serious financial and psychological implications of a stricter lockdown, but lives are at risk. They say the majority of infections they’re now dealing with were contracted at malls, at work and at schools – places where Manitobans have been allowed to go.
