There’s a warning about possible deadly fentanyl or other toxic substances in the Brandon’s street drugs -police say there have been three suspected heroin overdoses in a 24-hour period this week.
Lonnie Patterson, Vice President at Westman Families of Addicts, is aware of the recent OD’s and says Naloxone kits are available to counter an overdose. “There are places in Brandon to get training to adminster it and get it,” says Patterson. “If you, or a loved one are at risk, it would be importamt to look into that.”
She says there are few distribution sites in Brandon including the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba at 510 Federick Street – and at the 7th Street Health Access Centre, operated by Prairie Mountain Health, at 20-7th Street.
Brandon police say none of the overdoses were fatal adding they “can’t say that there are new cases of purple or blue heroin in the city, but the use of all illicit or illegal drugs comes with inherent risk obviously, and we have overdoses on a regular basis unfortunately.”
Police say the department has “ongoing drug enforcement in the city with members dedicated to investigating and arresting people involved in the illegal drug trade.”
