A very good Tuesday has allowed Neepawa’s Kelly Robertson to vastly improve his playoff chances at the Canadian Senior Men’s Curling Championship in Yellowknife.
Robertson stole seven points in downing Ontario’s Peter Mellor 9-2 on Tuesday morning and then stole nine points in a 10-5 victory over Alberta’s Mark Johnson on Tuesday evening.
The two wins improved the Manitoba champs record to 5-and-2 and leaves them in a three-way tie for second-place with Alberta and Northern Ontario’s Robbie Gordon.
Nova Scotia’s Alan O’Leary leads the standings with a 6-and-1 record.
Meanwhile, Brandon’s Lois Fowler remains tied for first-place in the Canadian Senior Women’s Curling Championship.
Fowler scored three in the third and sixth ends in downing Prince Edward Island’s Jennifer Scott 11-2 on Tuesday morning, and then a key three in the seventh end lifted the Manitoba champs to a 9-5 win over Alberta’s Glenys Bakker on Tuesday evening.
Fowler is tied with Ontario’s Marilyn Bodogh and Saskatchewan’s Lorraine Arguin for first-place entering Wednesday’s games.
