Brandon’s newest rep hockey program hit the ice Monday night (Sept 13) to get their inaugural season underway. 20-plus female athletes geared up to compete for a coveted spot on the first ever AAA U-15 Female Brandon Wheat Kings.
"It was great meeting so many of our talented athletes at the ID Camp in early July," says Head Coach Karissa Kirkup. "We have a great group of players with lots of potential. The entire coaching team is excited to spend more time with them this September and really see what they are capable of."
Team try-outs include three ice times this week and a weekend double header exhibition series versus the AAA U-15 Female Pembina Valley Hawks. Exhibition games take place Friday, September 17th at 7:30 pm at the Carman Dufferin Arena in Carman and Saturday, September 18th at 4:00 pm at Westoba Place in Brandon.
"'The Hawks’ Head Coach reached out to me quite quickly after Hockey Brandon announced this new program in the spring," says Kirkup. "I jumped at the chance to get some exhibition games scheduled. Being able to see how our athletes perform in game situations plays a big part in helping us build the strongest team possible. It also serves the obvious function of giving us a sense of what we’re up against in regular season play."
Try-out ice times this week are sponsored by West-Fit Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic.
