- Edgars Kulda got the overtime winner as the Edmonton Oil Kings held off the Brandon Wheat Kings 5-4. Brandon battled back from a 4-1 deficit to force extra time with Tanner Kaspick netting the game-tying goal in his WHL debut. The result leaves the Wheat Kings with a 20-15-4-0 record, still in sole possession of fifth-place in the Eastern Conference. Brandon will finish their four-game road trip Thursday in Calgary (7:30 p.m., 880 CKLQ).
- Jaycee Magwood scored twice including the overtime winner as the Westman Wildcats got past the Edmonton Thunder 3-2 to advance to Wednesday's final at the Mac's Midget Tournament in Calgary.
- Good things come in small packages for the Brandon 'AAA' Midget Wheat Kings. 5-foot-9 defenceman James Shearer was named a league all-star in his rookie year and is off to a solid start in his sophomore season. Shearer says size doesn't matter...

Shearer is leading all blueliners in scoring with nine goals and 36 points through 29 games. He's helped the Wheat Kings to 18 straight wins and a league-best record of 27-2.
- The Neepawa Natives were outshot 52-26 and dropped a 6-2 decision against the Portage Terriers in Manitoba Junior Hockey League action. Brady Bouchard had a goal and an assist while Sam Briscoe added two helpers for Neepawa.
- Team Canada held on for a hard fought 3-2 win against the U.S. at the World Junior Hockey Championship to secure top spot in Group 'A'. Nic Petan, Connor McDavid and Curtis Lazar did the goal scoring while Zach Fucale made 25 saves for the Canadians. Canada faces Switzerland in Thursday's quarter-final.
- Team West fell to 0-2 at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with a 5-2 loss to the Czech Republic. Wheat Kings' prospect Colt Conrad had two assists in a losing cause.
- Al Montoya made 27 saves for the shutout as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-0. Keaton Ellerby, Jacob Trouba and Anthony Peluso were the goal scorers while Montoya picked up his second shutout of the season and the Jets won their third in a row.
- The Jets signed forward Ryan Olsen to a three-year, two-way, entry level contract. Olsen has 17 goals and 34 points in 34 games with the Kelowna Rockets this season. He was a sixth round pick in 2012.
- Sunny Barbados is treating the Brandon University women's volleyball team well. Brianna Walsh had nine kills to lead the Lady 'Cats to a straight sets win over the Bois-de-Boulogne College Cavaliers to improve to 2-and-0 at the tournament. Mary Thomson had five service aces for BU who earn a bye into Thursday's semifinal.
