The Brandon Wheat Kings rely on their goaltending once again and edge the Prince George Cougars 2-1 Wednesday, October 12th.
The Wheat Kings had a great start with numerous chances in the opening 10 minutes but then the tides turned quickly with a handful of penalties taken allowing the Cougars to maintain puck possession in the attacking zone but Carson Bjarnason stood tall stopping every shot he faced in the opening frame.
The Wheat Kings would get on the board midway through the 2nd period after Zakhar Polshakov found Nate Danielson open in the left circle. Danielson would wire a shot which popped the water bottle off the net to make it 1-0 Wheat Kings. Carter MacAdams would even things up with a wrist shot off the left circle to tie it up at 1 with under 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd.
The Wheat Kings would get a powerplay in the third period. Forward Nate Danielson would go coast to coast finding Brett Hyland who would score the game winner allowing the Wheat Kings to escape with a 2-1 victory.
Nolan Ritchie was not in the lineup for the Wheat Kings after crashing into the boards on Monday in Calgary. He'll be re-evaluated ahead of tomorrow's game with the Vancouver Giants.
3 Stars:
