Yesterday as I was bundling up to head outdoors my son, who is a young adult, came in from the cold wearing only hoodie for protection from the elements. No toque, no winter coat, no mitts. Contrast that with me in a feather down parka, fur lined boots, fleeceline mitts, warm hat, and a scarf wrapped around twice. Then it occurred to me I was exactly the same as him when I was his age. It was far more important to be “cool” than comfortable and protected. In hindsight, if I could give my younger self one piece of advice it would be to dress for the weather, maybe if I had when I was younger I wouldn’t have the aches and pains I have now, but then I wouldn’t have been one of the cool kids. Unfortunately most useful knowledge comes from experience and frequently a tad late.
